A Question and Answer from this morning’s press conference with Julian Assange celebrating the 10th Birthday of WikiLeaks

Journalist’s question: In context of some of the things we’ve seen on the WikiLeaks New York Times piece, does Julian feel some affinity of some kind to Donald Trump? What’s the connection there?

Moderator Sarah Harrison (WikiLeaks editor): [laughs along with audience] …Sorry! It’s just very funny when you know… Do you feel [laughs], do you feel [laughs] any affinity with Donald Trump? This is in the context of some of the tweets and, I suppose this accusation that you’re for Trump because against Clinton is the accusation that people try to make. And so the question was, in the context of this and our twitter feed, do you feel any personal affinity with Trump?

Julian Assange: Uh, you need to—the mic’s a bit muffled, so you need to speak up clearly.

Sarah Harrison: Do – you – feel – any – personal – affinity – with – Trump?

Julian Assange: With Trump?!

Sarah Harrison: [laughs] That was the question, yeah [laughs].

Julian Assange: That’s an interesting…[audience laughter]..no, it’s an interesting question. I feel personal affinity with, really, I think, all human beings. You can — through understanding someone, and what drives them, — you can feel sorry for them. I certainly feel sorry for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. That’s a kind of human sympathy. These are two people that are tormented by their ambitions in different ways [audience laughter].
